Pregnancy pillows are very popular among pregnant women, and in fact, it is a must-have item to all expectant moms. It is the solution to all pains and aches pregnancy brings, and the comfort and softness it provides make it a heaven-sent product to women who are being challenged by pregnancy. This kind of pillow is specifically designed to deliver good and long sleep to pregnant moms, something that they are deprived of when expecting a baby.
Sleep deprivation is a very common occurrence during pregnancy. Not only lying on the back becomes very difficult, body pains also deprive a pregnant woman of a good night sleep. This is where pregnancy pillows enter the scene. This uniquely-designed pillow gives solution to sleep deprivation and body aches, no wonder this product is considered a savior by many pregnant mothers.
A pregnancy pillow is basically a long pillow, almost the same height as the user, and serves several purposes. The top portion of the pillow supports the head, neck and shoulders, while the bottom portion supports the legs and feet. The middle portion is either used as a belly or back support but most of the pregnant moms are fond of hugging the mid-section, as by simply hugging the pillow brings them comfort and relaxation which makes them fall asleep faster.
There are different types of pregnancy pillows, each has its own design, purpose, and function. Here is an overview of different types of pregnancy pillows that are available for moms-to-be:
  • J-shaped pillow: This type of pregnancy pillow is best to be used during the early stages of pregnancy. The top, curved portion serves as the support for head, neck and shoulders, while the middle-elongated portion is the portion that is hugged by the user which provides the kind of comfort inviting for a relaxing moment.
  • C-shaped pillow: This is the most basic amongst pregnancy pillows. This type of pillow gives support to the head and shoulders (top portion of C), provides support to the ankle and feet (bottom portion of C) and has an enough space for the growing tummy (middle portion of C). This pillow makes the side-lying easy for pregnant moms.
  • U-shaped pillow: This pillow is by far the perfect type amongst pregnancy pillows. All sides are cushioned and fluffy, allowing the user to feel the softness in whatever kind of sleeping position she is in. There are two elongated sides and they support both the back and the belly, while the top portion steadily delivers support to the user’s head, neck and shoulders.
  • Wedge pillow: This type of pillow is an accessory to pregnancy pillow. This pillow is designed to give support to the belly alone, which makes it a great addition to any type of pregnancy pillows. The pregnant user feels that a significant amount of pressure, ache and discomfort is lifted away when using a wedge pillow.
